Preliminary Application Assessment
Identifying the effort and costs associated with a migration of VSE applications is a necessary first step in the move to z/OS. An early and accurate assessment of the application migration cost provides critical information needed by IT management to determine the feasibility of this strategic decision.
PRINCE Software offers extensive experience and a proven track record in the planning and execution of VSE to z/OS migrations. Our Preliminary Application Assessment will provide a rapid evaluation and inventory of your application elements, determine the scope and size of the project, and highlight important planning issues.
Early assessment by PRINCE Software will provide the following benefits:
- Save weeks of manual effort
- Determine the true cost of the migration
- Provide accurate conversion information for budgeting and staffing
- Identify "special attention" items
The application assessment process will:
- Analyze source libraries, core image libraries, JCL, PROCs, SLIs, standard label definitions and CICS program information
- Identify relationships between jobs, programs and files
- Identify third-party and in-house utilities
- Identify missing and/or obsolete application elements
- Identify where automation can be applied and utilized
Requiring minimum effort from your personnel, the application assessment consists of the following steps:
- PRINCE Software provides detailed instructions on how to collect the necessary data and, if desired, software to assist in the collection process
- Data gathering should take 1 to 2 days of customer effort
- Data tape cartridges are sent to the PRINCE Software Migration Center for analysis
- Data is processed and analyzed within 1 to 2 weeks
- A senior PRINCE Software analyst meets with client personnel to discuss findings and provide migration recommendations
